Founded in 1984 by producer/director/writer, Judy Chaikin in partnership with producer, Loren Stephens, One Step Productions produced its first project, the PBS documentary LEGACY OF THE HOLLYWOOD BLACKLIST.  The film starred Burt Lancaster and received great acclaim including an Emmy nomination. Chaikin and Stephens next produced a short dramatic film for The Learning Corporation of America, SOJOURNER TRUTH: AIN’T I A WOMAN? which Chaikin wrote and directed, featuring stage star Julie Harris.  The film won first place at the American Educational Film and Television Awards. Their next project was LOS PASTORES (THE SHEPHERDS TALE), a bi-lingual documentary that aired on PBS and was included in the Smithsonian Institute exhibit on the art and culture of New Mexico.

Moving into music videos the company produced “SOMETHING INSIDE ME HAS DIED,” for the Punk Rock band KOMMUNITY FK. Directed by Chaikin and produced by Vickie Lowy, the video became an underground favorite on MTV’s basement tapes, earning a Billboard New Music Video Award and is currently considered a cult classic, receiving over 200,000 hits on You Tube.

In 2001 Producer, Nancy Kissock joined the company to produce the Short Narrative Film, COTILLION ’65, which won numerous festival awards including Best Short, Best Comedy and Best Comedy Director.  In 2006 One Step entered into a partnership with Artist Tribe CEO and Executive Producer, Mike Greene, to produce the multiple award winning feature length documentary THE GIRLS IN THE BAND, in conjunction with Kissock, Chaikin and Hugh M. Hefner. Artist Tribe/One Step Productions are currently in development on a feature film and theater production based on their previous work.
